In order to bring together high-quality and novel research works on <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/people\/xshua\/imm2009\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Internet Multimedia Mining<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/people\/xshua\/\" target=\"_blank\">Xian-Sheng Hua<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cs.nju.edu.cn\/zhouzh\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zhi-Hua Zhou<\/a>, and myself are organizing a workshop on the topic at the forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.umbc.edu\/ICDM09\/\" target=\"_blank\">IEEE International Conference on Data Mining<\/a>. One of the major obstacles of <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/people\/xshua\/imm2009\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Internet Multimedia Mining<\/em><\/a> research is the difficulty in forming a good dataset for algorithm developing, system prototyping and performance evaluation. Together with this workshop, <strong>we release a benchmark dataset<\/strong>, which is based on real Internet multimedia data and real Internet multimedia search engines (check the <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/people\/xshua\/imm2009\/\" target=\"_blank\">website <\/a>for details). Submissions to this workshop are encouraged to use this dataset, but papers\/demos working on other Internet-based datasets are also welcome.
